A description of how to encode fingerings in **fing spines.

Fingerings can be encoded in Humdrum **fing spines:

Fingerings can be placed in any order of spines after a **kern spine for the staff on which they should be displayed. Here is an example of including both **fing and **dynam data for the same staff using J.S. Bach cello suite no. 1 in G major, BWV 1007, Menuet II. The **fing and **dynam spines can also be exchanged.

Chords

Fingerings for chord notes are separated by spaces.

Fingerings in chords should be sorted from low to high pitches for right-hand notes in piano music, while left-hand note fingerings should be sorted from high to low pitches.

Coloring fingerings with CSS

Fingerings are marked in the output SVG image from Verovio with the fingering class. This allows fingerings to be styled on webpages like this:

Using the CSS definition:

#dmajor-svg .fingering { fill: red; }
